Europe's largest conference on psychedelic consciousness, Breaking Convention debuted at the University of Kent in 2011 to an audience of 500 delegates. Now in its twelfth year, it has developed into a truly multi-faceted conference selling well over a thousand tickets in forty countries and offering the latest ground-breaking research and insights across human and social sciences, law, politics, art, history and philosophy.
Our main, biennial conference spans three full days, during which we also hold numerous workshops and awards, display an art exhibition and installation programme, show a full cinema programme, curate a museum and blotter art auction, throw killer after-parties and publish a book of selected academic works free for every delegate.

The expressive language of painting has uniquely traced the human soul’s evolution of consciousness for over 30,000 years. Sacred art traditions throughout the ages have celebrated the visionary realms, exploring Heaven Hell and the multiverse inbetween. Each individual artist continues the evolving wave of visual culture.
This workshop will explore the importance of intention, process, subject matter, and the historic context of visionary painting in an open studio environment that supports independent thinking and artistic maturity. Building on existing painting skills, the Greys will support participants in celebrating their uniqueness, developing personal themes. Both conceptual and technical skills will be addressed in pursuit of defining and communicating the artist's intention.

We are delighted to host international artist, Riitta Ikonen, for an afternoon exploring fungi, art and human:nature. Riita will also be sharing tips on how to make your own mushroom costume.
Originally from the deep eastern Finnish forests, Riitta Ikonen’s interdisciplinary visual art collaborations look at contemporary human’s belonging in the natural world. The three time Telluride Mushroom Festival costume competition winner's first book (with Karoline Hjorth) Eyes as Big as Plates was nominated ‘Best first photobook in the world' at the Paris Photo / Aperture awards. Ikonen has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki, London 2012 Olympic Park and the PyeongChang Olympics amongst others. She studied at the University of Brighton and RCA and is a member of the American Stinkhorn Society (A.S.S.) Ikonen is currently nomadic, lecturing, exhibiting and performing around the world.
There will be an opportunity for Q&A with Riitta & the London Fungus Network after the talk. All are welcome, including existing fungi enthusiasts and those looking to explore the topic for the first time.

What BC have to say about their one-day event:
Here & Now is a day to reflect upon where we, the ‘psychedelic community’, have come from; and, where we might choose to go next. There will be talks and panel discussions, featuring some truly extraordinary people from a variety of backgrounds. We’ll also have a few stalls, so you can stock up on books, art, and BC merchandise! The beautiful garden of Red Lion Square is right outside the door, and there are plenty of cafes etc nearby for lunch, with tea and coffee facilities on site.
In the evening we’ll move to another venue to continue our conversations well into the night, with comfy seats and musical entertainment laid on for those who like to integrate their day of cerebral activity with an evening of somatic flow.

A State Of Flo Records invites you to an evening of fantastical fungi sounds. Immerse yourself in music created by a variety of mushrooms and other plants, helping you connect with nature on a whole new level.
On the night, we’ll have two live ‘biosonfication’ sets, from Natural Symphony working with a range of different plant species, and Brian d’Souza (formerly known as Auntie Flo) working with a variety of mushrooms (kindly growing by Fat Fox Mushrooms).
The evening will be presented on the 360º L-Acoustics surround sound system, allowing for a proper three-dimensional mycelium sonic network to form, taking you on a trip to the depths of your consciousness.
